KALINA IVANOV most recently created the production design for the feature films The Boys In The Boat and The Tender Bar both directed by George Clooney. Of late, she completed the HBO series The Penguin created by Matt Reeves and showrunner Lauren Le Franc. She also designed the HBO award-winning series Lovecraft Country, created by Misha Green, and produced by Jordan Peele and JJ Abrams, for which she received her second Art Directors Guild Awards nomination. Prior to that, she earned a Primetime Emmy Award and Art Directors Guild Award for the production design of the HBO film Grey Gardens, directed by Michael Sucsy.
In addition, Kalina has lent her talents to the films Wonder, directed by Stephen Chbosky; Long Shot, directed by Jonathan Levine; and the Emmy-winning Netflix series Seven Seconds, created by Veena Sud. Her long collaboration with director Robert Redford culminated in production designing the period drama The Conspirator. Her other notable films include the Oscar-nominated Little Miss Sunshine, Max, Poltergeist, Rabbit Hole, Made Of Honor, Brown Sugar, The Best Man, Household Saints, Smoke, and many others. Her designs have been featured in prolific publications including Architectural Digest, Perspective Magazine, Variety, IndieWire, Entertainment weekly, Awards Daily, and People Magazine.
Kalina owes much gratitude to her mentor, Jonathan Demme, who gave her the opportunity to storyboard his film The Silence Of The Lambs and cinematographer Nestor Almendros, who helped her finish her documentary The Longest Shadow for POV/PBS. She is a co-founder of the Production Designers Collective and a proud member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She is currently serving as a Governor of the Production Design branch at AMPAS.
